Questions
What people ask before booking
How much does plastering cost in Milton Keynes?
It depends on the size of the room, the state of the walls and whether it needs a skim or a full re-plaster. A sound wall that only needs skimming is quicker and cheaper than one where the old plaster has to come off first. That is why we come out and look before we price it. The estimate is free.
Can you plaster over Artex?
Usually, yes. Most textured ceilings can be bonded and skimmed straight over. If the ceiling is cracked, sagging or the texture is very heavy, we board over it first. Artex put up before the 2000s can contain asbestos, so we skim over it rather than sanding or scraping it, and we will say if we think it needs testing.
What is the difference between skimming and re-plastering?
A skim is a thin finish coat over plaster or board that is already sound. Re-plastering means taking off old plaster that has blown or crumbled and putting on a new backing coat before the finish. We will tell you which your walls need when we see them.
How long before I can paint new plaster?
Fresh skim needs to dry out fully first, which is usually a few days to a couple of weeks depending on the room and the time of year. It goes from dark pink to an even pale colour all over when it is ready. The first coat should be a mist coat: watered-down emulsion that soaks in and seals it. Or leave it to us: we paint as well, and we will come back when it is dry.
Do you do painting and decorating?
Yes. We paint the rooms we plaster, from the mist coat to the finish coats, and do the woodwork too: doors, skirting, frames and banisters. We also take on painting jobs on their own, where we have not done the plastering.
What areas do you cover?
All of Milton Keynes, from Shenley and Loughton to Kents Hill, Broughton and Wolverton, plus Bletchley, Newport Pagnell, Stony Stratford, Olney, Buckingham, Leighton Buzzard and Dunstable. If you are further out, ring and ask.
Do you take small jobs?
Yes. A patched wall, a ceiling, filling chases after a rewire. Ring or WhatsApp us with what it is and we will tell you straight away whether we can fit it in.
Do you work weekends?
Yes. We are open 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 5pm on Sunday.
